Selected experience 

• Medical doctor and specialist in infectious diseases with a postgraduate diploma in tropical medicine (Mahidol University Bangkok) and master’s degree in epidemiology (London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine).
  
  
• More than 25 years experience in national and international public health work in leadership positions (Swedish Institute for Infectious Disease Control and the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control – ECDC), including acting Director ECDC.

• Highly qualified researcher – doctor of medicine, docent, and adjunct professor (Karolinska Institutet) with extensive scientific production on infection disease epidemiology, travel medicine and antibiotic resistance.
  
  
• Extensive supervision and teaching experience at doctoral level.
  
  
• Editor-in-chief, Eurosurveillance.
  
  
• Founder and Scientific Lead of the Mediterranean Programme for Intervention Epidemiology (MediPIET).
  
  
• Global health experience from projects in China, Russia, North Africa, the Middle East and the Black Sea region.
